Last year was a great year for me and skating. My friends and I were all avid skaters, and every chance we got we would be outside, ripping it up. None of us were pros, but we weren’t half bad either. We all progressed at our own paces, learning tricks as we practiced and spent more time in the activity. But I didn’t skate for the tricks only. I did it because it was really, truly FUN. Every day at school I couldn’t wait to get home, get on my board, and ollie up a couple of curbs or ride around in front of my house. It was my passion, and my whole being was centered around it. I watched skate videos, was subscribed to a skate magazine, and talked about skating every day at school. I even dreamed about becoming a pro skater! It was fun for me to practice even while alone, and it was three times the fun with others. I had the most fun ever popping tricks and showing up my buds. My friends got me a grind rail for my birthday, and I had one more accessory to use in my ever growing love for skateboarding. This summer, however, as my skater friends moved away, I slowly stopped skating. I skated less after school, and even less on weekends. The love I had once had for the activity was fading into nothingness as I participated less and less. Eventually it got to the point where it just wasn’t fun anymore. When I did it I was all alone, as my friends who had skated with me every chance they got were gone, having moved to a foreign country, and others had stopped skating as well. I turned into a couch potato, and my passion for skating deteriorated. At first it was passion, then love, then likeness, and now just…blah. This blog is about me trying to get back into skating, because really, truly, I want to ignite that flame, to spark the love I had for something so beautiful, a work of art so misunderstood. I hope you enjoy.
