Monkey Scratch Question

Hello World! If anyone is reading this, I have a medical question. On Thursday, I was scratched on my hand by a crazy monkey. I didn’t know at first because t scared me pretty bad, but a few minutes later I saw I had a little scratch/cut on my finger. It didn’t really bleed, and if it did it was only a drop.  It just looked as if I had peeled a hangnail off. About 10-20 minutes after I got the scratch, I went and washed my hands really well with soap and water. Now I have a scab on my finger where the scratch was, and I’ve been worrying nonstop about getting a strange disease or something from the monkey, such as hepatitis or ebola. Yeah. If any of you is a doctor, please give me your opinion on if I should go to the doctor or if I’m fine or anything. MY parents tell me I’m fine but I still worry. Thank you.

An Awesome Day

Yesterday really was an awesome day. It started out good because my best friend DJ had slept over at my house. We woke up and chilled around the house in the morning; first we ate breakfast, than we watched Enchanted. That was a really good movie. At around 9:30, DJ and I mosied our way on outside, got on our skateboards, and skated around in front of my house. Although neither of us is that good, we had fun practicing our tricks and just being with a friend. Eventually we got a little tired of just skating around in front of my house, so we went down to the Casa Club. After skating there for about five minutes, the guards came and told us we couldn’t skate there. Woo. After sitting down for a little bit, we decided to skate home. By the time we got there it was about 12:00. We started to grill some hot dogs, and then my other good friend Matt pulled into my neighborhood with his older friend Keven. We had our hot dogs, talked a while about random things with my dad and Keven, and then headed out to skate some more. At first we just rolled around in front of my house like before, popping some tricks and just having fun. Keven was really good, landing tre flips and lots of crazy stuff. After that we started to go around the neighborhood looking for somewhere good to skate. We didn’t really find anywhere good just because there are only houses and at the one place with good stuff (the casa club) we’re not allowed to skate. We ended up skating around in the parking lot, which was still A LOT of fun. Keven was really good, and gave me some pointers on how I was doing my b/s 180s. He told me to keep my eye on the board, which has helped me SO much. A little while later Keven left but Matt stayed and we skated some more. Down by the pool in my neighborhood some kids at a party were doing this thing on the grass in front of the basketball course. Hotdogging around on the court, we started to do a little demo for them, popping ollies and doing whatever we could. Matt cavemanned off this chair, and then DJ took off his shirt and started skating around. All the kids loved that, and one of them, who had a skateboard too, came down and took his shirt off and started riding around. Eventually, we decided it was time to go and we ran and jumped into the pool. It felt SO good, but was then sort of hard to skate home because we didn’t want to get our boards wet. WE did get home though, and DJ and Matt both left shortly afterwards. My family and I then went to Pizza Gino, this cool little pizza parlor. It was really good there, and I ate more than usual. We then went home, and I, tired from the crazy day and the 4+ hard hours of skating, fell on my bed and hit the hay.                                                            Due to this awesome day, I think I am now fully revived in my passion for skating. All I want to do is skate. I want to go out and practice my tricks and have fun on my board. Woo-hoo!

Just a Little Bit

Man today I was so bored after I got home from school! I was just laying around on my butt watching t.v. I wanted to do something, but I didn’t really know what. Before it got dark I went out and skated a little on this little speed bump in the road. I ollied over this little gap a couple of times and then I started kickflipping it. It was a whole lot of fun. It wasn’t that hot outside, but when I came inside my face was all red and I was so hot! I had fun working on my stuff and just skating around. Right now I’m really pumped for a little skating party I’m having tomorrow. Some guys are coming over and we’re gonna skate around, play S.K.A.T.E., and maybe find a good spot or two. I hope this one guy that comes over can show me some new stuff. He’s really good. Anyways, stay tuned, and I’ll make a post tomorrow about how the party was, because then ill have somebody to skate with. And skating with somebody else is always more fun.

ME in a skate video

Hey here’s a video of me skating. All of this footage was taken last year, but I can still do all this stuff and some more too. The beginning is dumb (Sorry I ollie over the deck twice) I don’t know if the music is working or if it is the wrong one or what. It was supposed to be DARE from Gorillaz but I don’t know if that worked or not. I think I put the wrong thing. Oh well. Yeah this is me. I did most of the filming and all of the editing. My mom did a lot of the filming too, however, and my dad did some as well. I’ll try to put up a new video later with new footage and some better skating. So stay tuned!

Skating Stereotypes

Before I go in-depth into how my skating is going, I want to talk to the world about the stereotypes associated with skateboarding and the skating world. I think you all know what I mean when I say that skating has been portrayed as many different things in the media. I hope to tell you why these are wrong and should never be associated with skating and the people who do skate. First, and probably most common in our minds, is the belief that people with skateboards are scary, shady people that do drugs and are in gangs. They may be portrayed as having mohawks, tattoos, or earrings, and may vandalize areas they are around. These images have formed negative feelings toward the people in the skating community, leading the general population to prejudice them and be mean to them. That’s just stupid. Would people get mad at or insult people on unicycles or rollerblades? WE as skaters are just people trying to enjoy ourselves with our friends or by ourselves. We’re exercising and having fun with a plank of wood. Is that bad?  If anyone viewing this would like to see an example of prejudice and maliciousness towards skaters, there is a link here. It’s an example of how people can treat skaters like trash and no more. One news video shows a policeman abusing 12-14 year old skaters (one of them a girl!) out skateboarding on international “Go Skateboarding Day.” This was major news, and is an act of complete ignorance and stupidity by the policeman. *Warning* I am not embedding this video, because one of the kids shouts some pretty colorful language as the man tackles and starts to beat his younger friend. It is only an example of the bad feelings toward skaters. If you want to see it, search key words such as “police man skaters Go Skateboarding Day”  on Youtube. Please, I encourage you to comment on what I’m saying. I will respond back to you and edit my post to include more of what you guys say.

Here’s a pretty awesome video. This is Sierra Fellers’s part from “It’s Time,” the video from C1RCA shoes. It’s  a pretty hardcore video. His part is a lot cooler than any of Nyjah Huston’s parts, and it just makes you wanna go out and skate! I think my blog’s gonna be about me trying to get back into the world of skating.
